Tropical Bank Limited, a leading financial institution in Uganda, is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to fill the position of Consumer Banking Manager in Kampala. This is a senior role within our Business Department, reporting directly to the Head of Business. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing the bank's consumer banking strategy, driving portfolio growth, and leading a team of Relationship Officers to achieve ambitious targets.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide strategic and tactical leadership to grow the Consumer Banking segment in line with the bank's overall business strategy.
- Drive client acquisition and manage existing relationships to ensure quality business growth and customer satisfaction.
- Maximise bank revenue from the consumer portfolio through effective management of non-funded and net interest income.
- Acquire new customers for loans and deposits as per the segment's value proposition and strategic targets.
- Continuously innovate and review customer value propositions to stay competitive in Uganda's changing banking landscape.
- Ensure full compliance with all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines from the Bank of Uganda.
- Proactively manage credit risk to maintain a high-quality loan portfolio and minimise defaults.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Relationship Officers, setting targets and monitoring performance.
- Champion the bank's digitisation strategy within the consumer banking segment.
- Prepare and submit periodic portfolio performance reports to senior management.
Person Specification & Requirements
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Management, or a relevant field from a recognised institution.
- A certified banking qualification (e.g., ACIB) or a Master's degree in a relevant field is a strong added advantage.
Experience & Competencies:
- At least 6 years of experience in Business Banking within Uganda's financial sector, with 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Excellent knowledge of general banking practices, branch operations, and consumer banking products.
- Proven leadership, change management, and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent stakeholder and relationship management abilities.
- Proficiency in professional report writing and effective communication in English. Knowledge of Luganda or other local languages is highly preferred for customer interaction.
- In-depth understanding of credit, financial drivers, and digital banking trends in Uganda.
