Consumer Banking Manager Job at Tropical Bank Limited in Kampala

Tropical Bank Limited, a leading financial institution in Uganda, is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as a Consumer Banking Manager. This is a senior-level opportunity based at our head office in Kampala, where you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and quality of our consumer loans portfolio.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Business, you will execute and monitor the bank’s consumer banking strategy. You will provide strategic direction, lead a team of Relationship Officers, and ensure the segment achieves its targets for client acquisition, portfolio growth, and revenue generation. Your focus will be on enhancing customer experience, managing risk, and championing our digital banking initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans to grow the Consumer Banking segment in line with the bank’s overall business strategy.
• Lead client acquisition efforts and proactively manage existing customer relationships to maximise wallet share and customer satisfaction.
• Drive portfolio growth for consumer loans and deposits while maintaining high-quality standards and minimising credit risk.
• Manage and supervise a team of Relationship Officers, setting targets, monitoring performance, and supporting their professional development.
• Ensure all consumer banking activities comply with internal policies, Bank of Uganda regulations, and AML/CFT requirements.
• Continuously review and innovate the bank’s customer value propositions to stay competitive in Uganda’s evolving banking landscape.
• Optimise segment revenue through effective management of net interest income and non-funded income streams.
• Champion the bank’s digitisation strategy within the consumer banking segment.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field from a recognised institution.
• A Master’s degree or certified banking qualification (e.g., ACIB) is a strong added advantage.
• At least 6 years of experience in Business/Consumer Banking within Uganda, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Proven experience in portfolio management, credit risk, and driving digital banking solutions.

Key Competencies & Skills:

• Excellent leadership, people management, and change management skills.
• Strong analytical, stakeholder management, and relationship-building abilities.
• In-depth knowledge of general banking practices, branch operations, and Uganda’s financial services regulations.
• Proficiency in professional report writing and effective communication in English. Knowledge of Luganda is a distinct advantage for customer engagement.
• A team player who upholds the bank’s values and can drive a high-performance culture.
