Child Protection Specialist Job in Kampala, Uganda - Compassion International
Job Description
Compassion International, a leading Christian child development organisation, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Child Protection Specialist to join our team in Kampala, Uganda. This is a vital senior role focused on safeguarding the well-being of children within our programmes across the country.
As a Child Protection Specialist, you will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise to ensure the highest standards of child protection are implemented and maintained. You will be at the forefront of creating a safe environment for vulnerable children, working closely with our staff and local church partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership in the development and implementation of robust child protection policies, procedures, and practices for all Compassion programmes in Uganda.
- Conduct comprehensive child protection risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Lead the training and capacity building of Compassion staff and church partner staff on child protection standards, reporting mechanisms, and safe programme delivery.
- Manage the reporting, investigation, and case management of any child protection incidents, ensuring appropriate follow-up and support.
- Promote and foster a strong culture of child safety, dignity, and respect within the organisation and among all partners.
- Stay updated on Ugandan national child protection laws and international best practices, ensuring programme compliance.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate child protection principles into all aspects of our work.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Law, Psychology, or a related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in child protection, child safeguarding, or a related field, preferably within an NGO or development context in Uganda.
- In-depth knowledge of Ugandan child protection legal frameworks and the national child protection system.
- Proven experience in developing policies, conducting training, and managing sensitive child protection cases.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
