Job Description

ISP is seeking a skilled and experienced Agronomist specialising in Vanilla Cultivation to join our team in Uganda. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional passionate about sustainable agriculture and high-value crop production to contribute to Uganda's growing vanilla industry.

About the Role:
As a Vanilla Cultivation Specialist, you will provide expert technical guidance and support to vanilla farmers and out-grower schemes across Uganda. You will play a key role in improving crop yields, quality, and sustainability, directly impacting the livelihoods of local farmers and the success of our agricultural programmes.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement best-practice agronomic protocols for vanilla cultivation in the Ugandan context.
• Conduct field visits, soil analysis, and crop health assessments for vanilla farms.
• Train and mentor farmers on modern vanilla farming techniques, including propagation, pollination, pest/disease management, and post-harvest handling.
• Collaborate with research institutions to trial and adapt new vanilla varieties and sustainable farming methods.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and recommendations for management and stakeholders.
• Monitor crop performance and provide solutions to improve vanilla bean quality and yield.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in vanilla cultivation or a similar high-value perennial crop.
• Proven experience working with farming communities in Uganda, with strong knowledge of local agricultural conditions.
• Excellent training, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel extensively within Uganda's vanilla-growing regions.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Luganda, Lusoga) is a strong advantage.

What We Offer:
• A competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
• The chance to work with a leading organisation in Uganda's agricultural sector.
• A rewarding role with a tangible impact on farmer incomes and sustainable agriculture.
• Professional development opportunities in a growing industry.

If you are a dedicated agronomist with a passion for vanilla and community development, we encourage you to apply before the closing date.
