Kijani Forestry, a leader in sustainable forestry and landscape restoration in Uganda, is seeking a dedicated Restoration Design Associate to join our team in Gulu. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental conservation and community development projects in Northern Uganda.
About the Role
As a Restoration Design Associate, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing forest landscape restoration projects. You will work closely with our technical team to develop restoration plans that balance ecological benefits with community livelihoods.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop forest landscape restoration plans for various project sites
- Conduct field assessments and collect ecological data in Gulu and surrounding districts
- Collaborate with local communities to integrate traditional knowledge into restoration designs
- Prepare technical drawings, maps, and documentation for restoration projects
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of restoration activities
- Support the implementation of climate-smart agricultural practices within restoration areas
- Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders and donors
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental conservation, forestry, or landscape design
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan ecosystems and restoration techniques
- Proficiency in GIS software and design tools
- Experience working with rural communities in Northern Uganda
- Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages (Acholi, Luo) is an advantage
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to travel frequently to field sites
