Job Description

ISP is seeking a skilled and experienced Agronomist to specialise in vanilla cultivation in Uganda. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified agricultural professional to lead and implement best practices in one of Uganda's most valuable export crops. You will play a key role in enhancing crop yield, quality, and sustainability for our farming operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement advanced vanilla cultivation protocols and farm management plans.
  • Provide hands-on training and extension services to farmers on modern vanilla farming techniques.
  • Monitor crop health, manage pests and diseases using integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
  • Conduct soil analysis and recommend appropriate fertilisation and irrigation schedules.
  • Oversee the vanilla pollination, harvesting, and post-harvest handling processes to ensure premium quality.
  • Collect and analyse agronomic data to improve farm productivity and profitability.
  • Collaborate with research institutions to trial new vanilla varieties and sustainable farming methods.
  • Ensure all farming activities comply with national agricultural standards and international market requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in vanilla cultivation or high-value crop agronomy in Uganda.
  • Proven expertise in vanilla vine management, shade regulation, and bean curing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan agricultural ecosystems and challenges.
  • Excellent communication and training skills, with fluency in English and at least one local language.
  • Ability to work independently in rural farm settings and travel frequently within the region.
  • Computer literacy for data recording and report writing.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
  • The chance to work with a leading organisation in Uganda's agricultural export sector.
  • Professional development opportunities in a specialised field.
  • A meaningful role contributing to the growth of Uganda's vanilla industry and farmer livelihoods.

If you are a passionate agronomist with a green thumb for vanilla, we encourage you to apply and help cultivate success.
