Research Officer, Legal and Regulatory Reforms Job at Ministry of Finance Kampala
Job Description
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) is seeking a qualified and dedicated Research Officer for Legal and Regulatory Reforms to join the Private Sector Development Unit (PSDU). This is a key role within a major government ministry, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to Uganda's economic development by analysing and shaping the legal and regulatory environment for business.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on legal and regulatory frameworks affecting private sector development in Uganda.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and position papers on findings and proposed reforms.
- Support the PSDU team in stakeholder engagements with government agencies, private sector associations, and development partners.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of existing reforms and their impact on the business climate.
- Assist in drafting legal opinions, cabinet memos, and other technical documents related to regulatory reforms.
- Collaborate with other departments within the Ministry to ensure alignment of legal research with broader economic planning goals.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised university. A Master's degree in Law, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field will be an added advantage.
- At least three (3) years of proven experience in legal research, policy analysis, or regulatory affairs, preferably within the public sector or a development organisation.
- Strong understanding of Uganda's legal system and the challenges facing the private sector.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in using research tools and Microsoft Office applications.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
