Protection Officer Job at UNHCR Uganda - Kampala

UNHCR Uganda is seeking a dedicated Protection Officer to join our team in Kampala. This is a vital role within our Protection Team, where you will contribute to safeguarding the rights and well-being of persons of concern (PoC) in Uganda.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the development and implementation of comprehensive protection strategies and activities for the Uganda operation.
• Provide technical guidance and support to staff and partners on all protection-related matters, ensuring compliance with UNHCR's global standards and policies.
• Contribute to the design and execution of protection initiatives and projects, focusing on the Ugandan context and specific needs of PoCs.
• Ensure effective communication and coordination with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and community leaders in Uganda.
• Support the implementation of UNHCR's country protection strategy to help achieve the organisation's strategic objectives.
• Assist in the development and roll-out of protection policies and procedures, ensuring their effective application in the field.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A university degree in Law, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Proven professional experience in protection, human rights, or refugee law, preferably within the East African or Ugandan context.
• Strong understanding of international refugee law and principles.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and under pressure.
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local Ugandan languages (e.g., Luganda, Swahili) is a significant asset.
