Legal Officer Job at Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) - Kampala

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Officer to join our dynamic team in Kampala. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the growth and regulation of Uganda's vibrant tourism sector, a key pillar of our national economy.

As the Legal Officer, you will provide comprehensive legal support to ensure UTB operates within the framework of Ugandan law and its mandate under the Uganda Tourism Act. You will play a crucial role in safeguarding the board's interests and promoting a lawful tourism environment.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Provide legal advice and opinions to the Board, Management, and staff on a wide range of matters.
• Draft, review, and vet contracts, memoranda of understanding (MoUs), leases, and other legal documents.
• Represent UTB in legal proceedings and liaise with external counsel when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Ugandan laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
• Manage intellectual property rights related to Uganda's tourism brand and assets.
• Conduct legal research and prepare reports on pertinent legal and regulatory issues affecting tourism.
• Support the development and review of policies, legislation, and regulations pertaining to tourism.
• Handle legal aspects of procurement processes and board governance.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised university in Uganda.
• A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC).
• Must be enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practising certificate.
• Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in a busy legal environment, preferably in the public sector, a regulatory body, or a corporate setting.
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan commercial law, contract law, administrative law, and corporate governance.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
