Job Description

UNHCR Uganda is seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Officer to join our team in Kampala. This is a critical role within our Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Unit, offering the opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of persons of concern in Uganda.

In this position, you will work closely with various UNHCR sections, resettlement countries, IOM, and NGOs to support strategic resettlement and complementary pathways activities. You will ensure all operations adhere to UNHCR's global policies and procedural standards, contributing to comprehensive protection and solutions strategies for refugees.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, interview, assess, and process persons of concern for resettlement and complementary pathways, providing counselling and guidance.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of resettlement submissions from the country office and partners.
  • Manage information dissemination to ensure persons of concern and partners have accurate, up-to-date information on policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and update the proGres or Consolidated Online Resettlement Tracking System (CORTS) database.
  • Coordinate travel and departure arrangements for refugees accepted for resettlement.
  • Organise and conduct training sessions and workshops on resettlement for UNHCR staff and partners.
  • Assist in monitoring activities and mitigating resettlement fraud through oversight and guidance.
  • Support the implementation of UNHCR's global resettlement policies within the Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Undergraduate degree (or higher) in Law, International Law, Political Sciences, or a relevant field.
  • Experience: For P2/NOB Level: 3 years relevant experience with an Undergraduate degree; 2 years with a Graduate degree; or 1 year with a Doctorate degree.
  • Preferred Experience: Diverse field experience. Understanding of UNHCR's policy and global strategic priorities (AGDM, IDP, Statelessness). Experience working with partners in a refugee protection context. Completion of relevant UNHCR learning programmes (e.g., PLP, RSD/Resettlement Learning Programme) is desirable.
  • Functional Skills: Expertise in Resettlement/Repatriation procedures, Anti-Fraud Policy, and Cross-cultural communication.
  • Language: Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language or local Ugandan languages is an advantage.
  • Eligibility: All candidates must be legally present in Uganda at the time of application. Non-Ugandan citizens must provide a valid Ugandan residence permit. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for recruitment.
