World Vision International is seeking a dedicated and experienced Agriculture and Livelihoods Officer to join our team in Mbale, Uganda. This is a rewarding opportunity to implement transformative projects that directly improve food security and household incomes for vulnerable communities in Eastern Uganda.
About the Role
As an Agriculture and Livelihoods Officer, you will be at the forefront of our community development work. You will design and implement practical agriculture and livelihoods interventions, working closely with farmer groups, local partners, and community leaders. Your work will contribute to sustainable development and resilience in the Mbale region.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor agriculture and livelihoods projects aimed at improving food security and income generation.
- Promote climate-smart agriculture practices and sustainable farming techniques suitable for the Ugandan context.
- Facilitate value chain development and strengthen farmer group capacities for better market access.
- Provide technical support, training, and mentorship to project beneficiaries and local partners.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders and government extension services.
- Prepare detailed project reports, monitor progress, and ensure accountability of project resources.
- Integrate gender and child protection considerations into all project activities.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in agriculture and livelihoods programming, preferably with an NGO or development agency in Uganda.
- Strong practical knowledge of sustainable farming practices, market systems, and value chain approaches.
- Excellent community engagement, facilitation, and training skills.
- Proven experience in project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit is an added advantage.
