Senior Finance Officer Job at Catholic Relief Services in Kampala

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Finance Officer to join our dedicated team in Kampala, Uganda. This is a key role within our Country Program Finance Department, offering the opportunity to contribute to meaningful humanitarian and development work while advancing your career in NGO finance.

About the Role:
As a Senior Finance Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective stewardship of financial resources. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive accounting, financial reporting, and grants management services. Your work will ensure strict compliance with both CRS and donor financial regulations, directly supporting our mission to serve those in need across Uganda.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and validate all supporting documentation for financial transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper authorisation.


• Manage financial data and process transactions within the Insight financial accounting system.


• Record transactions, analyse accounts for irregularities, and prepare necessary adjustments and correcting entries.


• Monitor payment schedules, alert staff of due dates, and follow up to ensure timely financial management.


• Prepare periodic financial reports (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow) and conduct variance analysis to support decision-making.


• Build capacity by providing training and guidance to staff and subrecipients on financial policies and compliance.


• Perform assigned treasury duties, including cash management and forecasting.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (CPA/ACCA) is a strong advantage.


• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a similar finance role, preferably within an international NGO, local NGO, or financial institution in Uganda.


• Proficiency in MS Office (advanced Excel skills are essential). Experience with financial reporting software, particularly SunSystems, is highly desirable.


• Strong knowledge of donor regulations, especially USAID/USG rules, is a significant plus.


• Excellent analytical skills, unwavering attention to detail, and a commitment to ethical conduct.


• Must be a proactive, collaborative, and results-oriented professional with excellent communication skills.


• Fluency in English is required. Willingness to travel domestically up to 20% of the time.
