Research Officer - Value Chains Job Opportunity


The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MFPED) is seeking a dedicated and analytical Research Officer specialising in Value Chains to join our team in Kampala. This is a critical role within Uganda's premier economic planning institution, offering the chance to contribute directly to national development strategies and economic transformation.

Key Responsibilities & Duties



  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on specific agricultural and non-agricultural value chains critical to Uganda's economy.

  • Collect, process, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data to assess value chain performance, constraints, and opportunities.

  • Develop evidence-based policy briefs, reports, and recommendations to inform government planning and investment decisions.

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of existing policies and programmes on targeted value chains.

  • Collaborate with other government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and development partners on value chain initiatives.

  • Prepare presentations and effectively communicate research findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements & Qualifications



  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Honours) in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a closely related field. A Master's degree will be an added advantage.

  • At least three (3) years of proven experience in economic research, value chain analysis, or a related field, preferably within the public sector or a reputable research institution.

  • Strong proficiency in statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, R) and data analysis techniques.

  • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • In-depth understanding of Uganda's economic landscape, particularly the agriculture and industry sectors.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
