National Project Coordinator (Youth Employment) Job at ILO in Kampala, Uganda
Job Description
The International Labour Organization (ILO) is seeking a dedicated and experienced National Project Coordinator for Youth Employment to join our team in Kampala. This is a key role in a major project aimed at tackling youth unemployment by enhancing skills and creating sustainable job opportunities for young Ugandans.
As the National Project Coordinator, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing strategies to empower Uganda's youth. You will work with government ministries, private sector partners, training institutions, and youth organisations to build pathways to decent work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
β’ Lead the overall planning, coordination, and implementation of the youth employment project in Uganda.
β’ Develop and manage strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, employers' organisations, workers' organisations, and NGOs.
β’ Design and oversee capacity-building initiatives for project partners and beneficiaries.
β’ Monitor project activities, ensuring they meet set targets, timelines, and budgetary requirements.
β’ Prepare comprehensive progress reports, documentation, and results-based updates for the ILO and donors.
β’ Provide technical advice on youth employment policies and programmes within the Ugandan context.
β’ Ensure project interventions are aligned with national development plans like the National Development Plan (NDP III) and relevant sectoral policies.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
β’ A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
β’ Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in project management, preferably within the development sector focusing on youth, employment, or skills development.
β’ Strong knowledge of the Ugandan labour market and national youth employment policies and challenges.
β’ Excellent skills in partnership building, stakeholder engagement, and communication.
β’ Demonstrated experience in report writing, monitoring and evaluation, and financial management.
β’ Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an advantage.
