The International Labour Organization (ILO), a specialised agency of the United Nations dedicated to promoting social justice and internationally recognised human and labour rights, is seeking a qualified and experienced National Project Coordinator for its office in Kampala, Uganda. This is a senior-level position offering the chance to contribute to meaningful development programmes that impact Uganda's labour market and workforce.
About the Role
As the National Project Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in the effective implementation and coordination of ILO programmes within Uganda. You will be the key liaison between the ILO, government ministries, workers' and employers' organisations, and other development partners. This position is ideal for a development professional passionate about driving projects that promote decent work and sustainable economic growth in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day planning, implementation, and monitoring of assigned ILO projects in Uganda.
- Act as the primary liaison with national stakeholders, including government bodies (e.g., Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development), trade unions, employer associations, and NGOs.
- Prepare detailed project reports, work plans, and budgets, ensuring alignment with ILO objectives and donor requirements.
- Provide technical support and guidance on project activities related to labour standards, employment promotion, and social dialogue.
- Organise and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and stakeholder consultations.
- Monitor project progress, identify challenges, and propose effective solutions to ensure timely delivery of results.
- Contribute to resource mobilisation efforts by assisting in the development of new project proposals.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A first-level university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, Public Administration, or a closely related field. An advanced degree is a strong asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven professional experience in project coordination, management, or implementation, preferably within the development sector, UN system, or an international NGO.
- In-depth knowledge of Uganda's labour market dynamics, socio-economic context, and relevant national policies.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse partners.
- Strong report-writing and presentation skills in English. Knowledge of local languages is advantageous.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications (MS Office).
