Job Description
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) Uganda is recruiting a qualified and experienced Inspector of Mines at the U4 scale. This is a senior government position responsible for ensuring compliance with mining laws, regulations, and safety standards across Uganda's growing mineral sector. If you are a dedicated professional with a background in mining, geology, or a related field, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the sustainable development of Uganda's mineral resources and ensure the safety and environmental integrity of mining operations nationwide.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Conduct regular inspections of mining sites, quarries, and mineral processing plants across Uganda to ensure compliance with the Mining Act and related regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and complaints related to mining operations and prepare detailed reports with recommendations.
- Monitor and enforce health, safety, and environmental standards at all licensed mining operations.
- Advise mining companies and artisanal miners on best practices, legal requirements, and safety procedures.
- Liaise with district local governments, other ministries, and stakeholders on mining-related matters.
- Prepare technical reports, inspection findings, and recommendations for the Commissioner of Mines.
- Participate in the development and review of mining policies, regulations, and guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- An Honours Bachelorβs Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Sciences, or a closely related field from a recognised university.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience in the mining sector, regulatory environment, or a related field.
- Registration with the Uganda Engineers Registration Board (ERB) or relevant professional body is a strong advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of Ugandan mining laws, regulations, and health & safety standards.
- Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel extensively to mining sites across Uganda.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to public service.
