Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL), one of Uganda's leading sugar manufacturers and a key player in the nation's agricultural sector, is seeking a dedicated and qualified Environmental Officer to join our team in Jinja. This is a vital role for ensuring our operations meet the highest standards of environmental stewardship and sustainable development in Uganda.

Job Summary

The Environmental Officer will be responsible for actively monitoring, maintaining, and protecting environmental standards across all KSL operations. You will ensure compliance with Ugandan environmental laws, ISO 14001:2018 requirements, and internal company policies, contributing directly to our commitment to responsible manufacturing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce environmental standards in line with NEMA regulations, ISO 14001:2018, and company procedures.
• Liaise with Heads of Department to ensure all KSL operations comply with environmental legal and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with relevant government bodies (e.g., NEMA), local communities, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
• Work closely with the Safety Health and Environment Manager to implement and monitor approved environmental strategies, policies, and programmes.
• Promote and support sustainable development initiatives within KSL's operations.
• Conduct regular environmental audits and risk assessments.
• Prepare and submit necessary environmental reports to management and regulatory authorities.

Requirements and Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
• Proven experience in environmental management, preferably within the agricultural, manufacturing, or industrial sector in Uganda.
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001:2018 Environmental Management Systems is a strong advantage.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various departments.
