Automation Engineer Job at Hima Cement in Kampala, Uganda

Hima Cement Limited, a leading building materials manufacturer in Uganda, is seeking a skilled and experienced Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team in Kampala. This is an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge industrial technology in a stable and growing sector.

As an Automation Engineer at Hima Cement, you will play a critical role in maintaining, optimising, and improving our plant automation systems to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and productivity. You will be at the forefront of our digital transformation initiatives within Uganda's vital construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, program, and maintain PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and DCS (Distributed Control Systems) for cement manufacturing processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and instrumentation issues to minimise plant downtime.
• Implement process optimisation and control strategies to improve product quality and energy efficiency.
• Ensure all automation systems comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements in Uganda.
• Provide technical support and training to plant operations and maintenance teams.
• Manage automation projects from conception through to commissioning.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in automation engineering, preferably within the manufacturing, cement, or heavy industrial sector.
• Proven expertise with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar PLC systems and industrial networks.
• Strong understanding of instrumentation, motor controls, and process control loops.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• A valid driver's licence is an advantage.
