Job Description

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Switzerland is seeking a dedicated and experienced Water, Hygiene & Sanitation (WATSAN) Advisor to join our humanitarian mission in Uganda. This is a critical role focused on improving public health outcomes through the design, implementation, and monitoring of water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion programmes in our project locations.

As a WATSAN Advisor with MSF, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to prevent waterborne diseases and ensure access to safe water and adequate sanitation for vulnerable communities. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a dynamic humanitarian context and make a tangible difference in people's lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive WATSAN needs assessments in MSF project areas across Uganda.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and solid waste management solutions.
  • Develop and lead context-appropriate hygiene promotion campaigns and community engagement activities.
  • Train and supervise national staff and community health workers on WATSAN standards and practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate programme effectiveness, ensuring adherence to SPHERE standards and MSF protocols.
  • Prepare technical reports, budgets, and procurement plans for WATSAN activities.
  • Coordinate with Ministry of Health officials, local authorities, and other NGOs on WATSAN-related issues.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Water Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in WATSAN programming, preferably within humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Strong technical knowledge of water treatment, borehole drilling, sanitation construction, and hygiene promotion methodologies.
  • Experience working in Uganda or the East African region is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent leadership, training, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging and remote environments.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Luganda, Acholi, Swahili) is an asset.
  • Commitment to the principles and values of Médecins Sans Frontières.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package aligned with MSF’s international remuneration system.
  • Comprehensive health insurance and coverage.
  • Opportunities for continuous professional development and training.
  • The chance to work with a leading international humanitarian organisation.
  • A meaningful career contributing to vital public health interventions in Uganda.

Application Deadline: 25th January 2026

If you are a passionate WATSAN professional looking to apply your skills in a mission-driven environment, we encourage you to apply. Join MSF Switzerland in our commitment to delivering essential medical and humanitarian aid.
