WASH Specialist Job in Mbale, Uganda - World Vision International

This senior role is central to improving community health and resilience through sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programmes.

As a WASH Specialist with World Vision, you will lead the design, implementation, and technical oversight of critical WASH projects. You will work directly with communities, local government, and partners to ensure our interventions meet the highest standards and create lasting change. Key Responsibilities:

• Design, plan, and implement comprehensive WASH programmes aligned with national standards and community needs in the Mbale region.
• Provide high-level technical support and guidance to project teams and local partners on all WASH-related activities.
• Lead community engagement and mobilisation efforts to ensure participatory planning and sustainable ownership of WASH facilities.
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources efficiently, ensuring deliverables are met on schedule.
• Monitor and evaluate programme impact, preparing detailed reports for stakeholders and donors.
• Build the capacity of local staff and community structures in WASH best practices and maintenance.
• Ensure all WASH interventions adhere to Ugandan national standards and World Vision's quality benchmarks.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil/Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Public Health. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 7 years of proven, hands-on experience in designing and managing WASH programmes, preferably within the Ugandan or East African context.
• Strong project management skills, including budgeting, planning, and reporting.
• In-depth familiarity with Ugandan WASH sector standards, policies, and the local government structure.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and community engagement skills.
• Proficiency in English and knowledge of local languages spoken in Eastern Uganda is beneficial.
