Job Description

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) is seeking a qualified and motivated Research Officer to join the Private Sector Development Unit (PSDU). This is a critical role focused on analysing and proposing reforms to Uganda's legal and regulatory framework to enhance the business environment and drive economic growth.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on legal and regulatory constraints affecting private sector development in Uganda.
- Draft policy briefs, research papers, and technical reports on findings and proposed reforms.
- Collaborate with government ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and private sector stakeholders to gather data and validate research.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of existing legal and regulatory reforms.
- Support the PSDU team in organising stakeholder workshops, validation meetings, and policy dialogues.
- Prepare presentations and summaries of research for senior government officials and development partners.

Requirements and Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Law, Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is a strong advantage.
- At least 3 years of proven experience in policy research, legal analysis, or regulatory affairs, preferably within the Ugandan context.
- Strong understanding of Uganda's legal system, business laws, and regulatory landscape.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in using research methodologies and data analysis tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced government environment.
