Old Mutual Uganda, a leading financial services provider, is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Risk and Compliance to join our leadership team in Kampala. This is a senior executive role critical to safeguarding our operations and ensuring we meet the highest standards of governance within Uganda's dynamic financial sector.
About the Role
As the Head of Risk and Compliance, you will be the cornerstone of our governance framework. You will own the development, implementation, and continuous oversight of our enterprise-wide risk management and compliance programmes. Your expertise will ensure Old Mutual Uganda operates with integrity, adheres strictly to Ugandan regulatory requirements, and proactively identifies and mitigates potential threats to our business and clients.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust risk management and compliance framework aligned with local laws and Old Mutual Group standards.
- Provide authoritative guidance to senior management and the board on all risk-related matters and regulatory developments in Uganda.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and audits to identify operational, financial, and compliance risks.
- Design and execute effective risk mitigation strategies and control systems.
- Ensure company-wide adherence to internal policies, procedures, and the regulatory environment set by bodies like the Uganda Insurance Commission.
- Lead and mentor the risk and compliance team, fostering a culture of compliance and ethical practice.
- Prepare and present detailed risk reports to stakeholders and regulatory bodies as required.
- Stay abreast of evolving regulations and industry best practices within the East African financial services landscape.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related field. A Master's degree will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years of proven experience in risk management, compliance, or internal audit within the financial services industry (insurance, banking, or pensions).
- Professional certification such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Risk Analyst (CRA), or similar is highly preferred.
- Deep and practical understanding of the Ugandan regulatory environment for financial services.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Outstanding communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to influence at all levels.
