ISP is seeking a skilled and experienced Agronomist to specialise in vanilla cultivation in Uganda. Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide expert technical guidance and support to vanilla farmers across project sites.
- Develop and implement best-practice protocols for vanilla cultivation, including vine management, pollination, and post-harvest handling.
- Conduct field assessments, soil analysis, and diagnose pest and disease issues affecting vanilla crops.
- Design and deliver training programmes for farmers on sustainable and climate-smart vanilla farming techniques.
- Collaborate with research institutions and partners to trial and promote improved vanilla varieties and practices.
- Monitor crop performance, collect data, and prepare detailed reports on project outcomes and challenges.
- Ensure all agricultural activities meet quality, sustainability, and food safety standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in agronomy, with specific hands-on experience in vanilla cultivation highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM), soil health, and irrigation systems.
- Proven experience working directly with farming communities in Uganda.
- Excellent communication, training, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to travel frequently to rural field sites.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Luganda, Lusoga) is a strong advantage.
