Agriculture Extension Officer Job in Mbale, Eastern Uganda

Farmers Cooperative Union is seeking a dedicated and experienced Agriculture Extension Officer to join our team in Mbale, Eastern Region. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible impact on local farming communities by promoting modern, sustainable agricultural practices.

As a key member of our cooperative, you will be at the forefront of transforming agriculture in Uganda. You will work directly with our member farmers, providing the knowledge and support needed to improve yields, enhance food security, and increase household incomes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular field visits and demonstrations to train farmers on modern farming techniques and sustainable agriculture.
- Provide expert advice on crop management, soil health, pest control, and post-harvest handling for local crops.
- Develop and distribute educational materials and training programmes tailored to the needs of farmers in the Eastern Region.
- Act as a vital link between the Farmers Cooperative Union and the farming community, gathering feedback and reporting on field conditions.
- Promote the adoption of improved seeds, fertilisers, and environmentally friendly farming methods.

Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
- A minimum of 3 years of proven field experience working directly with farmers in Uganda.
- In-depth knowledge of local crops, farming systems, and the specific challenges faced by farmers in the Eastern Region.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and training skills, with fluency in relevant local languages being a strong advantage.
- A valid motorcycle riding permit is highly desirable for extensive field travel.
