Job Description
The Multinational Lake Victoria Maritime Communication and Transport project is seeking qualified and dedicated maritime professionals to join our crew. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to vital transport and communication operations on Lake Victoria, one of Africa's most important inland waterways. We are recruiting for multiple positions to strengthen our team.
Available Positions
- Able Seaman – Deck: Responsible for deck operations, maintenance, cargo handling, navigation watch assistance, and ensuring vessel safety and security.
- Able Seaman – Engine: Assists with engine room operations, machinery maintenance, monitoring equipment, and ensuring the mechanical systems run efficiently.
- Ordinary Sailor: Supports general shipboard duties, cleaning, painting, mooring operations, and assisting senior crew members as directed.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform watch-keeping duties as assigned by the Officer on Watch.
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of the vessel.
- Handle lines during docking and undocking procedures.
- Operate deck machinery and equipment safely.
- Follow all safety procedures, including firefighting and lifesaving equipment drills.
- Assist with cargo operations and ensure secure stowage.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- For Able Seaman roles: Valid Certificate of Competency as an Able Seaman (Deck or Engine) from a recognised maritime authority.
- For Ordinary Sailor: Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate (UCE) and a willingness to learn.
- Proven experience working on vessels, preferably on Lake Victoria or similar inland waters.
- Valid Seafarer's Medical Certificate (Fitness for Duty).
- Strong understanding of maritime safety (STCW basic training is an advantage).
- Ability to work in a team, follow instructions, and adapt to a demanding schedule.
- Excellent physical fitness and swimming skills.
